Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Certification Training: Controlling Hazardous Energy Safely
Course Overview:
This Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Certification Training Course provides employees with the knowledge and practical skills required to recognize, control, and safely isolate hazardous energy sources during maintenance and servicing operations.
Participants will learn the OSHA requirements for Lockout/Tagout (29 CFR 1910.147), understand the step-by-step procedures, and demonstrate how to properly apply and remove energy control devices to ensure a zero-energy state.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the purpose and scope of OSHA’s Control of Hazardous Energy Standard (29 CFR 1910.147).
- Identify various sources of hazardous energy, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal.
- Apply the six steps of proper lockout/tagout procedures.
- Demonstrate how to isolate, lock, and tag equipment prior to service or maintenance.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of authorized, affected, and other employees.
- Recognize common lockout/tagout violations and how to prevent them.

Assessment:
- Written Exam: 20-question multiple choice covering OSHA requirements and best practices.
- Practical Evaluation: Demonstration of proper lockout/tagout procedure using simulated equipment.
Target Audience:
Authorized and affected employees who operate, maintain, or service machinery and equipment where hazardous energy may be present.
Certification:
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Certification, that contains each employee's name, the signature of the Trainer, and the dates of Training, valid for one year.
The certificate of completion is available for review by employees and their authorized representatives with the students Training Passport.
Training Passport is a digital Training history of a person's Training Records.
Prerequisites:
- No prior certification required.
- Basic understanding of machine operations and workplace safety procedures recommended.
- Must be an employee whose job duties involve operating, maintaining, or servicing equipment where hazardous energy may be present.
Ensuring Safe Isolation of Hazardous Energy Sources
This course equips participants with the critical skills and knowledge to properly control hazardous energy during maintenance or servicing of machinery and equipment.
Through hands-on exercises and OSHA-aligned instruction, employees will learn to identify energy sources, apply lockout/tagout procedures, and verify a zero-energy state to prevent injuries and fatalities.
