OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training


Course Overview:


The OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program is intended to provide an entry-level construction worker's general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site.


This course provides entry-level construction workers with a broad awareness of common job-related safety and health hazards, as mandated by OSHA standards.


Participants will learn to recognize, avoid, and prevent hazards on construction job sites and understand their rights and employer responsibilities under OSHA.


OSHA recommends Outreach Training Program courses as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926.


Workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of the job.


Course Objectives:


By the end of the course, participants will be able to:


  • Understand OSHA’s mission and their rights under OSHA law.
  • Identify the four most common construction hazards (Focus Four).
  • Recognize ways to prevent and control jobsite hazards.
  • Describe employer responsibilities for worker safety.
  • Apply best practices for using PPE, tools, and safe work procedures.


Purpose:


The purpose of this OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Course is to is to provide entry-level construction workers with essential knowledge and awareness of:


  1. Workplace Safety and Health Hazards: To help workers identify, avoid, and prevent common hazards on construction sites—especially those that can lead to serious injuries or fatalities.
  2. OSHA Standards and Compliance: To introduce participants to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations specific to the construction industry, ensuring they understand both their rights and employers’ responsibilities under the law.
  3. Accident Prevention: To reduce the risk of incidents and fatalities through safety education, with a strong focus on OSHA’s "Focus Four" hazards: falls, electrocutions, struck-by, and caught-in/between.
  4. Empowering Workers: To empower workers to take an active role in maintaining a safe workplace by promoting a positive safety culture, improving communication about hazards, and encouraging reporting of unsafe conditions.
  5. Compliance and Certification: To satisfy certain federal, state, or employer requirements for safety training and provide workers with an OSHA 10-Hour Card, which demonstrates their basic understanding of construction safety principles.


In short: The course is a foundational step in building a safer, more informed, and OSHA-compliant workforce in the construction industry.


Target Audience:


Entry-level construction workers, laborers, apprentices, and anyone involved in construction-related activities.


Course Duration:


10 Hours (typically delivered over 1.5 to 2 days)


Certification:


Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an OSHA Construction Outreach DOL course completion card within 2 weeks that contains each employee's name, the signature of the Trainer, and the dates of Training, valid for life.


The certificate of completion is available for review by employees and their authorized representatives with the students Training Passport.


Training Passport is a digital Training history of a person's Training Records.


Evaluation:


Students gain knowledge through lectures, group discussions, hands-on exercises, equipment demonstrations, and student participation.


Participants will be evaluated on their knowledge, skills and abilities during the learning seminar and will complete a final examination and are required to pass with an 80% or better. 


Course Requirements:


  • Attendance for the full 10 hours
  • Participation in discussions and activities


Prerequisites:


No prior construction training or certification is required, but experience and a basic understanding of construction is helpful.
